When your kids wake up each morning refreshed and relaxed, their whole day is already off to a good start. Your kidsí bedroom plays a significant role in getting the sleep their body needs, but itís more than just a room for sleeping. Itís also a place where they can unwind with their peers, so it needs to be cozy and neat. Give your kids the gift of a sound sleep by making their bedroom a pleasant retreat after a stressful day.

Make their stuff reachable

To help your kids stay comfortable and organized, make sure they will be able to reach their toys and other things they use daily. Your kids will use their closet storage and coat racks if they can easily reach them.

Bring their Cartoons closer to them

If your kid loves a specific cartoon or show, you can add a painting of their favorite animation or superhero characters like sponge bob, Dora, Peppa pig, etc. Doing this will make the room more friendly and unique.

Decorate the ceiling

You can add a painting of stars and a moon on your kid's ceiling. Using glow in the dark paint will give them joy when they turn out the lights at night. A cityscape at the edge of the room is a good idea too. If your kid is a lover of nature, you can bring the outdoors into the room by hiring an artist to paint different colored leaves and birds on the wall.

Make them multi-functional

As your kids grow, their room will need to accommodate a study desk, and more storage spaces for books and of course medals and trophies if you have a competitive kid. Buy multi-functional pieces of furniture that feature desk space with plenty of storage.

Good lighting

Be sure to incorporate multiple types of lighting in your child's room. Overhead lights and a reading light are both essential. A reading light is not only for studying. It can help your little one get to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Keep their bed simple 

Your kid's bed should look cozy and simple, don't stuff in too many pillows. A single pillow and their favorite teddy by the corner is just perfect! 

Your kid's bedroom should make them happy

When furnishing your kid's room, let them voice out their opinion too. Rather than giving them, bold color like Yellow or orange, give your kids the chance to make their color choice. Handling the whole process is a bad idea, your kids to should be a place of solace and not where they would feel uncomfortable.

A small space can seem to be an unsolvable challenge. There are ways that you can work with your home and adapt to the space to suit your needs.

Arrange Furniture Wisely


If the furniture in a room isnít arranged properly, it can really put a damper on a small space. You donít want your furniture to be so far apart in a room, that people canít carry on a conversation, but you also donít want the room to appear cramped. 


In the living room, for example, youíre going to want to keep some open space but also have a strategy to arranging the furniture to set it up for company and space. This means that you need to pull furniture away from the walls. This will create more depth for the room, without adding anything. Also, donít fill any room with too much furniture. If a room feels stuffy, see what pieces of furniture aren't essential and take them out. 


Use Solid Colors For Your Base In A Room


If a small room has large pieces of solid color on the wall open, youíll have the freedom to add patterns if you want. This also gives the room the illusion that itís larger and has more open space available. 


Place Your Bed In Front Of A Window


It may seem strange to place a bed in front of a window, but in many small bedrooms, this is your only option to give you space for both furniture and a bed. The bed actually becomes the focal point of the room when you arrange it this way. 


Get Key Pieces To Help Maximize Space


 There are a few pieces that you may not even think belong in your living room that actually can help you to maximize the space. Instead of a sofa, for example, get a love seat. There are even pull-out versions of love seats that can accommodate overnight guests. Now, youíre saving space with a purpose. 


An armoire is typically thought of as being in the bedroom for clothing storage. You can use an armoire to hide things like games, liquor and bar tools, or even books. This can help you to hide things, reducing clutter, creating the illusion of more space in the room. There are dozens of other great pieces that save space and serve a purpose in a living room. These include sofa tables and side tables.


The Basics


In small rooms, the most important thing to remember is that simple is best. You donít want much beyond the essentials. If you get creative with the space, youíll be able to make the most of every inch that you have to work with.

Humans today live a lifestyle more fast-paced than ever before. We're constantly keeping track of work, bills, emails, friends on social media... the list goes on. With all of these social and work responsibilities it's sometimes hard to unwind at the end of the day and fall asleep on time at night. Americans have some of the poorest sleeping habits on earth. One in three have what could be considered "mild insomnia." While sleeping patterns vary between cultures, one thing is certain: getting enough quality sleep is vital to living a long and healthy life. Here are some changes you can make in the bedroom that will help you get more quality shut-eye.

Beds are for sleeping

Are you the type who stays in bed watching TV, eating, reading on your phone or laptop. If so, you might be losing sleep because of it. It's important to train your body to know that when you're in bed†with the lights off it's time to sleep. Read in your kitchen or on the sofa at night rather than in the bedroom if you're the type who has to be busy up until bedtime.

Clean your room

If your bedroom is messy, cluttered, or uncomfortable in any way it might be affecting your sleep. Clean things up to make it a more spacious, cozy environment. Once you've cleaned, don't stop there. Try adjusting the lighting and colors in your room as well. Studies have shown that the colors in our environment affect our mood. You don't want bold, stimulating colors in a place devoted to sleep. To make lighting adjustments, keep your shades or curtains open at night so natural light wakes you up in the morning. This is a good practice for your circadian rhythm (our 24-hour sleep cycle that helps us wake up and fall asleep naturally). If you do use lights in your room at night, use a soft, yellow light. Blue light, liek that emitted from most LEDs, is higher on the UV spectrum and tricks your body into thinking it's daytime.

No phones in bed

Just like the LED lights mentioned above, your phone, laptop, and tablets all emit light that can keep you up. When darkness falls your brain begins producing melatonin (a chemical than makes you fall asleep). Staring into these screens inhibits that production, keeping you up later. You may feel that you're "just not tired," which is perfectly true. But it's because you're stopping your body from telling you it's time for bed. Some alternatives to looking at your phone would be to read or knit in bed while you wait to feel sleepy. Then you can just put them down and drift off to sleep. Helpful bedtime tips:
  • At night, set your phone's brightness to very low and if you have an iPhone use the "night shift" mode that turns your phone's light from blue to yellow
  • Listen to calming, ambient music on your iPod that will take your mind off distracting thoughts
  • Listen to an app or podcast designed to help you sleep
  • If you can't sleep after an hour or so, try getting up for a bit or having a protein-filled snack. Then try going back to bed
